Burns Birthday. A gathering marking the birthday of beloved Scottish poet, Robert Burns. Complete with pipes and haggis, this event starts our year of activities.
Family Picnic. Society members gather with their families and friends to get to know each other at a summer picnic.
High Tea. We gather for High Tea with a Sunday afternoon meal featuring entertainment.
General Meetings. We gather periodically through the year for general meetings where we conduct society business, socialize, hear a speaker on a Scottish topic and enjoy refreshments.
Scottish Festival. Formerly our biggest event of the year, this festival had been on the first Saturday of October. Pipe bands filled the air with music as athletes, dancers and pipers compete. Demonstrations showed us the skills that were once part of everyday living. We are not presently hosting the Scottish Festival.
Join us... for A Chance to Learn We've provided tens of thousands in scholarships to individuals interested in studying various aspects of Scottish culture such as dance, bagpipes, Gaelic, kilt making, etc.
Join us... for Our History of Giving The St. Andrew's Society of Connecticut was founded in 1981 by a group of Scottish Americans and native Scots with an aim to "keep alive the memory of Scotland, her manners, literature, and games; to promote Scottish culture and heritage." And, like many other St. Andrews Societies, one of our goals is to perform good works, as reflected in our motto, "Relieve the Distressed."
We are happy to report, that we have donated tens of thousands to charities here in Connecticut and Scotland.
